JBlend™ to Power NEC's 804N Handset for Vodafone K.K.

First Japanese-made Handset to Use JBlend Porting Layer

TOKYO, JAPAN - April 24, 2006 -

Aplix Corporation (TSE: 3727) announced today that its JBlend™ Java™ platform is deployed in the Vodafone 804N handset, made by NEC Corporation.

The Vodafone 804N is the first handset by a Japanese manufacturer to use both the JBlend platform and its porting layer, a value-added feature that has been adopted and gained popularity among Aplix's handset customers in other areas of Asia.

By using JBlend with the porting layer, mobile phone manufacturers are able to better integrate the Java operating environment on top of their own platforms, further enhancing performance and greatly reducing the number of operations needed in the development process. The porting layer utilizes individual components for each function, and therefore can be provided to support specific areas where customers request a particularly high level of performance.

The JBlend platform used in the Vodafone 804N handset has been tuned for best performance with Vodafone K.K.'s own version of Java. It has incorporated Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 1.1 [JSR-139], the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) 2.0 [JSR-118], and some Vodafone K.K.'s market-specific Java requirements, such as JSCL's 2D Sprite and 3D graphics Java Class Library.

As the first-to-market enabler, Aplix has been trusted by global operators and handset manufacturers to fulfill their desired Java specifications. The JBlend platform has already been deployed on over 170 million mobile devices around the world. Aplix continues its innovative efforts to contribute to the development of consumer products that are even more appealing and easier to use than those we have today.
