Aplix to Support NTT DoCoMo in Developing Next Generation Java™ Platform for Mobile Phones

TOKYO, JAPAN - November 30, 2005 -

Aplix Corporation (TSE: 3727), the global leader in deploying Java technology in mobile phones, announced today that it will support NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc. in their joint efforts on the Star Project, an initiative targeting what Java will be for next-generation mobile phones. Aplix is going to play the consulting role to DoCoMo in this project.

Today's mainstream CLDC (Connected Limited Device Configuration) based Java platforms have evolved over time as operators and phone manufacturers continue to introduce new services and applications. With more advance applications and services coming to the market to meet the increasingly diversified consumer needs, the Star Project aims to develop a platform that will allow Java services to work more securely and efficiently on next-generation mobile phones.

DoCoMo Senior Vice President, Multimedia Services, Takeshi Natsuno said, "The Star Project is a joint project of Sun, the specialist company that originated Java, and DoCoMo, which has been a world leader in developing Java services. As our team is joined by Aplix, which has developed Java platforms with many carriers and mobile phone manufacturers both in Japan and abroad, we are confident that we can accelerate the development of this project."

Aplix CEO, Ryu Koriyama said, "We had been working with DoCoMo on the development of the DoJa™ /Java platform for FOMA™ handsets, and we are very pleased to contribute to the Star Project. We have been working with Java applications for consumer electronics since 1997, and our Java platforms have been deployed on over 150 million products as of today. We aim to build on this experience in making our contribution to the development of the Java platform for next-generation mobile phones."

Java technology is increasingly gathering momentum as a technical platform for household devices in the era of ubiquitous computing. JBlend is our unique platform enabling never before seen features on mobile phones, and increasingly on digital devices. JBlend has already been deployed on over 150 million devices around the world. Aplix continues its innovative efforts to contribute to the development of consumer products that are even more appealing and easier to use than those we have today.
