Aplix and VLI Partner to Develop Java-Based SIP and VoIP Technologies
SAN FRANCISCO - May 26, 2004 -
Aplix Corporation, the global leader in deploying Java technology in mobile phones, and VLI, a market leader in Mobile Broadband VoIP(*1) Telephony products and services, announced today that they have formed a global strategic alliance. In addition, Aplix Corporation has made an equity investment in VLI and will join the VLI Board of Directors.
Aplix brings to the table its proven expertise in embedded systems for consumer electronic devices and VLI its total solution for VoIP. Together the two companies will collaborate in developing their business and technology of VoIP, including the development of Java-based SIP(*2). Furthermore, Aplix will immediately gain a toehold into the vast Chinese market where VLI currently maintains an engineering staff of over 40 engineers.

Short for Voice over Internet Protocol, a technology that enables the transmission of packaged voice data through an IP network.
(*2) SIP
Short for Session Initiation Protocol, a signaling protocol for controlling multimedia sessions over an IP network. Because of its simplicity and scalability, many standards are being established utilizing SIP such as instant messaging.
