JBlend™ Technology Ships in Latest Sharp Camera Phone Offered in Europe by Vodafone

SAN FRANCISCO - November 5, 2003 -

Aplix's leading Java mobile phone platform enables key features for the Sharp GX20

Aplix Corporation, the global leader in deploying Java™ technology in mobile phones, today announced that its JBlend™ platform is shipping in the new Sharp GX20 GSM/GPRS camera phone. The GX20 mobile phone is available across Europe from Vodafone.

Both the new GX20 and its predecessor, the Sharp GX10 mobile phone, incorporate the JBlend™ platform. The GX20 features color screens on both the main and exterior screens, and includes a built-in digital camera offering 640 x 480 resolution. The phone also has a dedicated button to provide rapid access to Vodafone live!, which launched across Europe one year ago and is now also offered in Australia, Egypt and New Zealand.

Since the GX20 phone includes the same JBlend™ Java technology as its predecessor, users can enjoy a wide range of existing premium Java technology-based content available via Vodafone live!, including full-color games and polyphonic ring-tones. The GX20 also includes a newly implemented "Resident MIDlet" feature that enables a MIDlet to be placed in background mode while another application is executing, then immediately reinitiated when desired or upon particular phone events.

JBlend™ technology is the most deployed Java execution platform for mobile phones worldwide. More than 20 million handsets have been shipped with JBlend™ technology, which has been incorporated into 58 wireless handset models from 11 different manufacturers. Phone manufacturers are able to benefit from Aplix's extensive experience with a wide variety of chipsets, operating systems and network operator profiles to quickly and efficiently deliver advanced, feature-rich products to market.
