Overview
Mobile PictDirect is middleware for mobile phones compliant with PictBridge, a standard established by the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) for printing digital images without using a PC. Installing Mobile PictDirect on a camera-equipped mobile phone enables it to directly print beautiful images on compliant printers. Any printer supporting PictBridge can be used, regardless of manufacturer or model. And since Mobile PictDirect also supports a Java API, it offers many possibilities beyond easy printing of digital images; with Mobile PictDirect, you can download Java applications to the mobile phone for image processing, make postcards, stickers, and more.
With today's mobile phones equipped with megapixel-class cameras, there is growing demand for the ability to print photos taken with a mobile phone. Until now, however, the only available options were to use a special dedicated printer or using a fee-based printing service. This technology makes it possible to print images on ordinary printers supporting PictBridge, making printing from the mobile phone easier and more accessible.
Mobile PictDirect is provided with sample source code and documentation. Additionally, eSOL Co., Ltd. offers porting and customization service, reducing the burden on mobile-phone manufacturers.

PictBridge is a standard for connecting a digital camera and printer directly via a USB cable, and printing without using a PC. Established by the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA), this standard is endorsed by a large number of manufacturers of digital still cameras and printers, and has become the de-facto industry standard.
