SIP Technology

Session Initiative Protocol (SIP) Technology provides IP network with a standardized call processing functions and features present in the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). SIP and related technologies also enable presence function which informs caller of called person's willingness and ability to engage in communications. Instant messaging function is provided as well.

Recently in the communications industry, many kinds of VoIP (Voice over IP) services and products using SIP technology have been launched. As an example, NTT DoCoMo introduced the N900iL 3G handset in 2004 which has WiFi-VoIP capabilities for in-plant communications. SIP based telecommunication services are not only related to VoIP. PoC (Push to talk over Cellular) services also utilize SIP technology as a method of call control.

Aplix recognized the importance of SIP technology in the mobile industry and embedded devices because of the technology's versatility in communication systems. For this reason, Aplix formed a partnership with VL Inc. and co-developed prototype of JBlend™ [micro] with JSR180 profile which is Java SIP API set standardized by JCP. Aplix keeps research and development on SIP and related technologies.
