Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) is a method of identification using contactless data transaction over radio frequency. It is often pointed out RFID is the key technology of ubiquitous computing environment.
RFID is not a dream technology but a practically used technology in the real world. In fact, many proprietary RFID solution has already came into practical use in several distribution systems and merchandise management systems. However, current usage of RFID is limited to particular purpose to which the solution is designed.
In these circumstances, it is reported that some mobile operators and handset vendors have conducted proving test of mobile handset with RFID reader/writer module. If mobile handsets come to equip RFID reader/writer module, RFID related situation would be change dynamically.
Aplix has already experienced in connecting JBlend™ to contactless smart card chip which is incorporated in mobile handset. This connectivity of JBlend™ brought various Java applications expanding the smart card chip functionality.
If mobile handsets come to equip RFID reader/writer function, the same would occur. The combination of RFID tags and RFID accessible JBlend™ on mobile handset can fire the fuel of RFID technology's potentiality.
