Motion Watch

An original Aplix development, "Motion Watch" is a conceptual model for a next generation watch (patent application no. 2002-188681).

MOTION WATCH

Going beyond the notion of changing watches to match different clothes, this watch makes its own kind of fashion statement by "changing its own clothes".

As envisioned, the "Motion Watch" will have an LCD face and incorporate the JBlend™ platform. The appearance can be changed by dynamically downloading new designs in the form of Java applications, or by using customization features. One possibility will be to download a Java application that reacts to sensory data, altering the appearance of the watch dynamically with changes in temperature or the wearer's pulse rate.

Users will be able to give each other new original watch designs as presents. Other Java applications besides those for design enhancements can be run as is, including the usual games and schedule managers, as well as remote control functions for consumer appliances, or applications that work in conjunction with a cellular phone. The possibilities are practically endless.

This demonstration is powered by T-Engine/SH7727 and an implmentation of the JBlend™ platform that supports Java ME CLDC 1.0 and MIDP 2.0. The JBlend™ technology-enabled T-Engine implementation is linked to a small LCD on the watch, which looks to the naked eye like a typical crystal watch face. However, this watch can dynamically change its look, using Java applications to display different backgrounds and run games, a simple PIM, standby screens and other features.
